Doing better – for people, the planet, and all animals – isn’t an "extra" feature. It’s essential.
We didn't build madkind to be another "wellness" brand. We built it because we saw how extractive systems fail users when they prioritize short-term gain over negative consequences. In the beauty industry, that failure often looks like engineered urgency, manipulative insecurity, and opaque supply chains. We are here to demonstrate a different system can function.
our formulation philosophy (safe over sentiment)
We don't follow "clean beauty" trends that rely on fear-mongering. We follow evidence.
- congruence: Our actions must match our claims. If we use a synthetic ingredient for stability, we tell you why.
- progress over performance: We acknowledge where we are not yet "clean." Our Roadmap [LINK] details the issues we’ve faced and our responses to them.
- We don't hide the PEGs; we explain them via our plain language ingredients explanations and glossary. [LINK]
sustainability as a practice
True sustainability in a global supply chain is a massive challenge that requires constant interrogation. We treat sustainability as a set of operational constraints.
- doing more with less: We are actively exploring multi-function products to reduce the number of items you need. Our four step skincare routine is an example. Our goal is to replace "12-step routines" and similar trends with high-performance, versatile essentials that respect your time and the planet’s resources.
- packaging & waste: We prioritize recyclability and are actively designing for a future of infinite-loop refills. We are moving toward entirely removing secondary packaging where product types permit.
accessibility as a structural precondition
We believe that if a system isn't accessible, it isn't ethical. Most brands treat accessibility as a legal checkbox; we treat it as a foundational constraint – so much so, we rebuilt the website after our initial build failed to meet that standard. This isn’t us saying “hey, look how great we are.” It is us finding a way to deliver calm, clarity and compassion for all.
- no engineered urgency: We refuse to use pop-ups, countdown timers, or pressure tactics. We recognize that hesitation is a valid state. Our system is designed to be calm, ensuring that urgency is never introduced to prompt a transaction. You decide the pace.
- digital integrity: Our website is built for screen readers, keyboard navigation, and cognitive ease. We refuse the "semantic noise" and "focus traps" common in modern web design.
- clear communication: We provide audio-described instructions and plain-language ingredient data because transparency is only radical if it is understandable.
